If you're active, I wouldn't zero out carbohydrates. I'm dieting pretty


hard while trying my best to maintain muscle mass. I eat 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. From there, I round out my remaining calories with carbs and fats fairly interchangeably. Frankly a calorie deficit is a calorie deficit IMO, especially if you're eating "enough" protein. Whether you're getting your calories outside of proteins with more carbs than fats or vice versa or a combination of the two doesn't really matter IMO.

The one aspect of most keto diets that I definitely follow is intermittent fasting. There is some evidence to suggest that limiting insulin windows is important for fat burn. Intermittent fasting has also been linked to retaining muscle mass in mice even when they eat precisely the same thing but in different eating windows.

Another risk with keto, where are you going to get your fiber? Really difficult if carbs are set too low.
